Meet the team

halloween with the team

Seafood City has always been a family business. Even though the team has expanded beyond Mom, Dad, and Brian, the people behind the counter treat each other like family. Yeah, we have fun too!

Brian

Brian is the President of Seafood City. The son of Mom and Dad Hamatake, Brian carries on the tradition of great seafood and great service.

Brian took over the business in the year 2000. He intends to run the business just like his Dad did: with an emphasis on quality products and friendly, personal service.

Brian's current duties include managing staff and ordering product. He's also behind the counter most days, helping customers pick the freshest fish.

When he's not behind the counter, you can find Brian sharpening up the skates and heading to the local hockey rink. (Rumour has it Gretzky is scouting him for the next Olympic team . . .)

You might not know it, but Brian is also a serious amateur chef. Check out some of his recipes in the Brian's cookbook section of the recipes page, and tell us what you think.

Chris

Chris joined the Seafood City team in 2002, and he's quickly become Brian's right-hand man.

Here at Seafood City, Chris is equally skilled in serving customers as he is with cleaning fish. We also use him for his uncanny heavy lifting abilities.

In his spare time, Chris enjoys a good game of hockey, and he's a big fan of motorcycles. If you see a red bullet bike streaking past you one day, make sure to wave - it's probably Chris.

Krity

Krity has been a part of the Seafood City team for more than a decade.

Krity is well known among customers for her bright smile and cheerful attitude. But she's equally adept behind the cleaning table, she is a self-taught fishcutter whose skills have amazed everyone!

On her days off, you can find Krity taking care of her 11-year old son. She also happens to be an excellent cook (we're trying to get her to share some of her favourite recipes from the home country in Guyana, South America . . . check the recipes page!)

Mary

Mary is the longest-serving member of the Seafood City team. She joined the company over 20 years ago. Brian couldn't even reach the counter back then!

Originally from Hong Kong, Mary knows all about seafood. She also speaks four languages: English, Cantonese, Mandarin, and Vietnamese.

Mary is the proud mother of two boys. She says it takes all her energy to keep up with them.

David

David is the "new kid on the block" at Seafood City, having just joined us about a year ago.

David's family, however, are long-time customers of Seafood City. In fact, his Mom overheard Brian talking about needing some help one day. Wasn't long before David found himself behind the counter.

David doesn't have any spare time right now. As a student of Kwantlen College, he's busy studying, working hard to get into the Commerce department at UBC. If you see him around Vancouver doing something else, let us know.

Mom and Dad

As the founders of Seafood City, Mom and Dad know a thing or two about seafood. Being born in Japan - perhaps the greatest seafood loving nation in the world - that doesn't hurt, either.

Mom and Dad handed over the day-to-day operations of the shop over to Brian back in 2000. But you can still see them behind the counter from time to time, making sure things are running smoothly. As Dad is quick to explain, Brian may be President, but Dad is still the boss!
